November
2013 was a warm, wet and thundery month.
The rainfall total of 117.6 millimetres was 34 mm higher than the average with
a number of moderate and heavy falls spread throughout the month. See below for
further details.
Day temperatures were a little higher than normal, and
overnight temperatures a little lower than normal. There were no notable
extremes.
Thunderstorm activity was much higher than normal with a storms developing in a
number of troughs over northern New South Wales on ten days of the month. Hail
fell during two storms on the 10th.
Winds were mostly light to moderate westerlies.
Noteworthy
events:
23rd - A low pressure trough over eastern
New South Wales generated widespread showers and thunderstorms over the
Northern Tablelands during the day. In Armidale there were a number of slight
and moderate thunderstorms starting at 10am and lasting until 4.45pm. Total
rain recorded for the day was 21.8 mm. This was the highest daily fall since
2nd March this year. No hail was observed with the storms.
29th - As a low pressure trough passed over
north-eastern New South Wales moderate to heavy falls of rain occurred on the
Northern Tablelands with Armidale recording 50.8 mm throughout the day. This
was the highest daily fall for two years since 24th November 2011 when 87.6 mm
of rain fell. The rain was heaviest during the afternoon which caused minor
flooding in Dumaresq Creek.
