MONTHLY WEATHER REVIEW - ARMIDALE NSW

JUNE  2014



June 2014 was a reasonably typical winter month in Armidale - it was cool and partly cloudy with light falls of rain.
The rainfall total of 35.8 mm was 19 mm below the average. Falls were mostly light with the heaviest being 9.6 mm on the 28th.
Temperatures were slightly higher than normal with one notable exception on the 27th recording a minimum of -7.3 degrees - see below.
It was a partly cloudy month but frosts still occurred on 14 nights - two less than the average.
Winds were mostly light to moderate westerlies.

Noteworthy events:
27th
- After the passage of a cold front on the 24th, very cold air, clear skies and calm conditions overnight on the 26th/27th allowed the temperature to drop to -7.3C, Armidale’s lowest temperature since 4th July 2012 (-7.4C). The temperature dropped to zero at 8pm and remained below zero until 8.30am with the minimum occurring at 7.15am. The maximum on the 27th was 18.1C resulting in a rather large temperature range for the day of 25.4 degrees.
30th - An upper level cold pool which combined with moist surface westerly winds generated snow showers over the higher parts of the Northern Tablelands including Guyra and Black Mountain. There was no snow in Armidale but it was very cold with light afternoon showers and a maximum of just 8.3C.
