MONTHLY
WEATHER REVIEW - ARMIDALE NSW
JUNE
2012
June 2012 was cool, dry and partly cloudy.
Although there were a number of light falls throughout the month, the rain
total of 30.8 mm was well below the average. The highest daily fall was just
6.0 mm on the 27th.
Temperatures were mostly close to normal with three exceptions described below.
Prevailing winds were light to moderate westerlies.
Noteworthy
events:
5th - An
upper level pool of cold air passed across northern New South Wales. This
system, combined with moist south-westerly winds generated by an intense low
pressure system in the Tasman Sea, produced very cold air over the Northern
Tablelands, so showers falling above about 1300 metres
arrived on the ground as snow. Armidale missed out, but the Guyra/Black
Mountain/Ben Lomond areas all received light non-settling snowfalls. Armidale’s maximum temperature was 6.5C, the coldest day
temperature since 11th August 2008 (6.5C).
24th &
25th - The minimum temperatures of -8.8C and -9.0C respectively were the
lowest temperatures recorded in Armidale since 30th June 2010. Clear skies,
combined with cold dry air following the passage of a cold front on the 22nd,
resulted in the very chilly mornings. Temperatures of -8.0C or lower occur on
average of two days per year.
